Studio Vase by Matthew Tyas

Large Globular shaped studio pottery vase by Matthew Tyas of The Leach Pottery, Higher Stennack, St Ives, Cornwall. 

Matthew explores the expressiveness of the clay surface and develops glazes that respond to one another in the heat of the kiln. Clay is the foundation of the pot, so there is often a tension between glaze application and allowing space for the clay’s expression.  

The glaze on this pot is subversive, and looks de-focused rather like an impression of the solar systems gas giants.

This pot inspired by frosty Yorkshire fields.
