After Charles Edward Perugini (1839-1918), "Girl Reading" 1878.  Oil on canvas, a faithful interpretation of this famous work, now held in the City Art Gallery in Manchester, England.

The work depicts a young woman, seated on a marble bench in an Orange grove, reading from an open book placed in her lap.  She is wearing a white Silk dress, of medieval style, with draped loose sleeves.  Her Red/brown hair is parted centrally and neatly tied back, she holds a sprig of orange blossom up to her chin while she rests her right elbow in her left hand.  An orange is placed beside her on the bench, supposedly picked from laden tree behind her head, which forms the background beset with fruit and blossom.  Her eyes gaze downward in contemplation of her book.

This impressive image stands as a metaphor for women's education, classical beauty and is serene and charming.  The canvas is mounted in an ornate gilt frame.
