A Nelson Jug

A Staffordshire pottery water jug, hand painted and modelled as Horatio Nelson.

A hand painted, polychrome model of Admiral Horatio Nelson, hero of Trafalgar, The Battle of the Nile, 1st Viscount Nelson, fashioned as a Water Jug.  Nelson, an incredibly popular British figure of the late 18th and early19th Century. Shown full length in Naval Uniform, with one sleeve pinned to his patterned waistcoat. At the back there is a long handle for pouring, using his bicorn hat as the spout of the jug. Simply named on the base at his feet "Nelson"

There are no makers marks.

This splendid item is in remarkably good condition, with no chips or cracks. there is a little wear to the original paint around the handle.
